The silk you choose carries that vision as much as your pattern or your cut. Here are the criteria I discuss with the designers who come to the showroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Weight, above all<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same word \"silk\" can weigh two or three times as much depending on the weave. An evening piece that needs to fall in fluid movement calls for light Mulberry silk; a structured piece, coat or jacket style, pairs better with denser Tussar silk, almost textured like fine linen. Weight is felt before it's seen \u2014 which is why I always have people touch the fabric before any decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Drape, according to the cut<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A bias cut calls for silk that slides and follows the body \u2014 Mulberry or satin Benares. A structured, voluminous cut tolerates, even seeks out, a stiffer material \u2014 block-printed Tussar or Eri. Drape is never just a matter of taste; it's a matter of construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Colour, natural or worked<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of my silks are dyed in deep colours, others remain strictly natural \u2014 ecru, cream, almost raw.
